This tapestry represents the victory of king

Louis XIV over the Spanish in Flanders in 1667.

It was designed by the Flemish painter Frans Van

der Meulen (1632-1690), who was summoned 

to Paris by Le Brun (the first painter of King Louis 

XIV).  He was renowned as rhe painter of “La 

Glorie du Roí” and specialized in landscapes, 

Knights and battles.
